Take-profit rules for copy-trading

Fixed targets, laddered exits and partial take-profits compared on real caller data, and how to pick a target that suits a caller's style.

The single most important setting when copying calls is where you take profit. It matters more than which caller you follow.

Fixed target

Sell everything at one multiple, for example 2×. Simple, and easy to backtest: a call either reached the target or it did not. Low targets hit more often but cap your winners; high targets miss more often.

Laddered exits

Sell a third at 1.5×, a third at 3× and hold the rest. Laddering smooths results: you bank something on most calls and still catch the occasional runner. A ladder behaves roughly like the average of its steps.

Recover the stake

Sell enough at 2× to recover your stake and let the rest ride at zero cost. Psychologically easy, mathematically similar to a 50% ladder step at 2×.

Match the target to the caller

Some callers post early, low-cap entries that either go 5× or die. Others post later, higher-cap tokens with smaller, more reliable moves. Look at the caller's median and best peak multiple on calls.team, then test targets around that median in the backtester.
